XOR Gates. How and why?

An XOR gate is a logic gate that takes 2 inputs, that can be ON or OFF and outputs ON only if the inputs are different, so if one input is ON and the other is OFF.

Now you may be wondering "why would I need an XOR gate anyway?". Well an XOR gate let's you turn a circuit on and off from 2 different places.
Here the 2 pistons can be extended or brought back in from either of the 2 levers.

This is useful for a secret passage way. You can open, and close the hidden entrance from both the inside and outside.

The only downside is that it is a little bit complicated to build, so read the instructions carefully!

First build the circuit shown in the image below, including the blocks. The 2 redstone wires on the left will be the inputs.

Place blocks over these 2 redstone torches. I don't know why. One of the many mysteries of Minecraft.

Complete the circuit like so, the redstone wire on the right will be your output, connect it to whatever you like.

That's an XOR gate finished. Wasn't that hard was it? Move the levers to wherever you want. Pulling any of them will toggle the output between on and off.

Minecraft Pig:
Never put one of these in a trap! I trapped a wolf once, it got out and bit off my leg. Luckily, blocky legs aren't that hard to fix.

  1. Ha, this is clever, my current XOR gate resembles a two story building, so this is definitely an improvement :)
